Flax seeds are wonderfully nutritious and extremely high in omega-3 fats and fibre. They are ideal for simply adding to cereals and smoothies for an extra boost of fibre and nutrients or then can be sprinled in salads, yoghurts or mixed into other foods. They have a lovely nutty flavour and can add bulk to many foods. They can be used as a replacenet for eggs when by baking by just mixing with water. Flax seeds should be bought whole and ground for use. Just chewing flax seeds whole isn’t enough to break them up whereas grinding flax seed allows your body to absorb all the nutrients – whole flax seeds can simply pass straight through your body so the nutrients aren’t absorbed. Pre-ground flaxseed loses nutirents far more quickly than whole flaxseeds and spolis more quickly – it is also far more expensive!
Simply grind them in small batches using any suitable kitchen blender, food processor, coffee grinder etc. even a pestle and mortar or spice mill/pepper mill. Then keep the ground flax in the fridge while using.
